Sounds like I've had the same trouble, and I run apache with -u. The
man pages ( http://www.openbsd.org/faq/faq10.html#httpdchroot )
suggested logging to a pipe(2), but when I piped the logs to cronolog
(suggested in Apache docs), the same thing happened as with rotatelogs.

If someone who is rotating logs would post their method(s) to the list
and consequently the archives, I'm sure we could satisfy the potty
